Those who like to smoke often do so at home, as it is banned in many public and other places.
Recently there was a small fire in a residential block, believed to have been started by a cigarette.
Your safety is always our top priority, and while the safest thing is not to smoke at all - smoking is still the leading cause of fatal fires in the home - here are some tips to make it safer if you must!
- Use a sturdy ashtray - Choose one that can’t tip over easily and empty it regularly.
- Extinguish completely - Always make sure your cigarette is fully out before you walk away. No flicking out the window or off balconies - it’s dangerous for your neighbours, and it could ignite flammable materials below.
- Never smoke in bed - it’s one of the most dangerous habits and a leading cause of deadly fires!
REMEMBER: Smoking is not allowed in any communal areas – this is a legal requirement and helps protect everyone.
We are currently producing some new fire and safety booklets, which will be distributed to every home shortly.
Look out for yours and take a read, it could literally save your life!
